The salt water swimming baths were one of the amenities provided in the Pier Gardens when the M. S. & L. Railway Company Ltd., built the sea wall and landscaped the old clay cliff at Cleethorpes in 1883/85. The baths closed during the war 1939-45 and were not re-opened aftewards. The building was susequently demolished and the site redeveloped with two storey public shelters, ornamental gardens and a fountain. [Notes by E. H. Trevitt] Photographed C1955/56 where they back onto the borough council's potting sheds.
