:Doughty Road Cemetery Clearance
:
Work is well advanced in clearing Doughty Road cemetery of tombstones in preparation for its conversion into a garden of rest. The work is expected to be finished within two months. A bulldozer and two tractors are being used to demolish the tombstones and various other kinds of memorial masonry and move them to the excavated pathways in which they are being buried. The whole scheme, including legal fees and fencing off the adjacent railway line, will cost about £1000...Grimsby Evening Telegraph, 2nd February 1959.
