Doig's Shipbuilding and Repiar company was based on the west side of Royal Dock, Grimsby, founded by John Salmon Doig. The company was a major local employer producing a variety of fine small vessels, including tugs, trawlers and minesweepers. In 1934 the company purchased Thomas Charlton & Sons and work was doubled. Doig's secured Admiratly contracts in WWII to build a series of wooden hulled minesweepers, HMS Fiskerton being the last of the vessels in the 1950s. By the 1960s it had built its last vessel and could not compete with a decline in shipbuilding. In January 1964 Ross Group purchased the entire business. The yard closed in the 1970s and the site was cleared in the 1980s.
